IMPERSONATING A NATION – ONE CHARACTER AT A TIME

Tracey Ullman’s new comedy sketch show, takes a satirical look at a day in the life of America – from the country’s celebrity obsessed, 24-hour news culture to impersonations and parodies of original characters who make up the nation.

Written by and starring Emmy Award-winner Tracey Ullman, State of the Union is a collection of irreverent and hilarious skits that range from sardonic parody and social satire to Bollywood musicals.

Tracey portrays a snapshot of modern-day America through impersonations of celebrities such as Cameron Diaz, Renée Zellweger, Helen Mirren and David Beckham, and through a line-up of original characters that reflect a cross section of society from an Indian ‘singing’ pharmacist, to a homeless woman without health insurance to a soldier on temporary leave from Iraq

State of the Union is Tracey’s first series since the multi Emmy award-winning shows Tracey Takes On which sold successfully around the world and ran on HBO in the US for seven years.

The show premieres on the Showtime Network in the US on March 30th 2008.

It may prove to be her finest comedy character work to date. Tracey Ullman has won eight Emmys and has a reputation as “one of the funniest women on the planet” (Vanity Fair).

"I have always loved Tracey Ullman ever since I was a young development executive at Fox when she was doing the original 'Tracey Ullman Show,'" says Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.  “She is a one-of-a-kind comedienne and sketch comedy performer, a true artist. We are so proud to bring her to SHOWTIME in a completely new show that will again showcase what she does best, and in this case, she will be looking at the wide cross-section of Americans and both celebrating us and sending us up."
