Kingdom Comedy drama   »               «
Stephen Fry stars as Peter Kingdom, a compassionate solicitor whose life is overshadowed by the mysterious disappearance of his brother. Set in Market Shipborough, in the beauty of the Norfolk landscape, the drama focuses on Kingdom’s dysfunctional family, the people he works with and the town’s residents.

As Peter drives around in his beloved Alvis, investigating one case after another, we see the community through his eyes.

We watch him as he helps with various and varied problems, ranging from recurring battles with the council from the cantankerous and litigious villager Mr Snell to bitter battles of custody.

Kingdom theatre poster   Intelligent, patient and mildly eccentric, Peter Kingdom is a figure of strength and goodwill in the local community.

Kingdom is ultimately about three families: Peter’s own dysfunctional family, Simon, his missing brother, his lustful younger sister Beatrice who wreaks havoc when she comes to live with him after being released from a rehabilitation clinic, and his dotty Aunt Auriel; then his family in the office, Lyle, the sharp trainee solicitor who works in Peter’s practice always dreaming of escaping the sleepy backwater for the bright lights of the metropolis and Gloria his faithful receptionist and confidante; and finally the family of Market Shipborough. Peter feels he has a personal responsibility for all of them.
